As part of a thorough overhaul of its smart home portfolio, IKEA has announced the launch of 21 Matter-compatible devices spanning lighting, sensors, and control categories slated for release in 2025. This initiative underpins a detailed rebuilding of the company’s smart home ecosystem following its earlier TRÅDFRI-era offerings. Central to the upgraded architecture is the DIRIGERA hub, which functions as both a Matter-certified controller and bridge, facilitating interoperability between new smart devices and legacy IKEA products.

The entire product range adopts Matter over Thread/Wi‑Fi protocols, enabling seamless cross-brand integration with major smart home platforms such as Google Home and Apple HomeKit. IKEA also emphasizes affordable pricing to deliver smart home solutions accessible to a wider audience. The adoption of local-first architecture helps minimize cloud dependency and enhances security while maintaining reliable operation. IKEA’s strategic emphasis on simplicity, affordability, and a consolidated procurement experience aims to promote mass-market adoption of smart home technologies. The products are designed to be affordable and accessible, breaking down barriers that traditionally hindered widespread smart home adoption.

The new smart lighting lineup represents an entry-level yet technologically advanced foundation for home automation. It encompasses multiple bulb forms, sizes, lumen outputs, and color capabilities, including white spectrum and full-color variants, all dimmable. Priced competitively between approximately £4 and £9 per lamp, the offering notably undercuts premium competitors while adhering to the Matter standard. The launching bulbs include various types such as E27/E26, P45 E14, and GU10, covering a broad range of lighting needs.

Compatibility with accompanying remotes, sensors, and the DIRIGERA hub realizes sophisticated automation scenarios such as gradual sunrise effects, presence-based activation, and holistic “whole-home off” lighting scenes. This integration facilitates user-configured, energy-efficient lighting control that can be scaled gradually through intuitive setups.

The sensor array comprises five distinct types targeting comfort, safety, and environmental monitoring: motion, door/window, temperature-humidity, air quality, and water leak detection. Exemplifying versatility, the MYGGSPRAY motion sensor supports both indoor and outdoor applications for automatic lighting triggers in circulation areas, while the MYGGBETT door/window sensor enables event-driven notifications and lighting control.

TIMMERFLOTTE sensors provide real-time indoor climate data with a simple pixel display, and ALPSTUGA air quality sensors measure CO₂, particulate matter, temperature, and humidity, interfacing with IKEA air purifiers. Collectively, these sensors contribute precision data for optimized home environment management.

Control devices include BILRESA remotes with dual-button and scroll-wheel variants designed for tactile scene and dimming adjustments without mandatory app engagement, thereby enhancing accessibility. The GRILLPLATS smart plug transforms conventional appliances into networked devices, supporting controls via app, remote, or sensor-based automation.

Integrated energy monitoring identifies inefficient “energy vampire” electronics, empowering informed scheduling and consumption reduction. All control products adhere to Matter protocols, ensuring interoperability across platforms, while maintaining cost-effectiveness relative to competing alternatives. This detailed ecosystem overhaul positions IKEA to fundamentally enhance residential energy management and smart home accessibility.
