Alexa is Amazon’s virtual assistant that lets you talk to your devices using your voice. It’s pretty cool, but it doesn’t work well with most home automation products.

Alexa works great with Philips Hue lights, but not with TP-Link Smart Plug. In this article, we’ll go over how to do Alexa work with TP-Link Smart Plug so you can control your lighting from anywhere in the world.

What is a TP-Link Smart Plug?

A TP-Link Smart Plug is an electric outlet that does not require a standard plug to operate. Instead, you need the Kasa app to use it. The Smart Plug can be plugged into traditional outlets, automatically connecting to the app. There are three models of smart plugs: the Standard Plug, the Mini Smart Plug, and the In-Wall SmartPlug.

The setup process is the same between all three models of smart plugs. You first have to name your TP-Link Smart Plug before using it. After calling your plug, the next step is to verify your email address to complete the activation process for it. The Smart Plug can be controlled remotely–you need to download the app onto your mobile device first. The power button on the front of it activates the device from anywhere!

Step 1: Get the Kasa app

To get started with your TP-Link smart plug, you will need to download the Kasa app. The Kasa app is available for Android and iOS devices.

You can also use the web version of the application on your computer.

Once you have installed the app, please open it and sign in using your account information. If you do not have an account yet, create one by following the prompts.

The next step is to add a new device to your home network.

For this, select Add Device > Smart Plug from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

To connect the Kasa Smart Plug to Wi-Fi, you’ll first want to make sure that your phone or tablet is connected to the same network as your plug.

Once you’ve verified that both devices are on the same network, open up the Kasa app and tap on the Add Device button.

The next screen will prompt you to select a product. Select “TP-Link Smart Plug” from the list and then hit “Next.”

First and foremost, you’ll need to ensure that your TP-link smart plug is compatible with Alexa. If it’s not, then there’s not much you can do! However, if it is consistent, check for power problems. Sometimes these plugs can be a little finicky and might require a hard reset, and you can usually find the reset instructions on the manufacturer’s website. If all else fails, try disconnecting the plug from the power source for about 10 seconds before reconnecting it. Hopefully, this will fix any wireless connectivity problems you might be experiencing.
