Do you have a Soundcloud and want to play it through your Amazon Echo device?

Well, the secret ingredient is Alexa. You know how cool that little device is right? It’s been on of my favorite gadgets since I first saw one in action at CES two years ago!

But no matter how amazing it sounds, what if you don’t have speakers around or just prefer listening with headphones attached to a smartphone? That’s where this article comes in.

Here are a few of my favorite ways to stream your music through Alexa, so if you don’t have speakers in the background or just want something different from what everyone else is doing, then here ya go!

How to play SoundCloud on Alexa?

Playing SoundCloud on Alexa is not as simple as you might think. In order to do so, you need to connect your SoundCloud account with a Bluetooth device. You can then use the speaker to play music from SoundCloud.

Pairing a smartphone to Alexa and playing music on SoundCloud is the simplest way to play music on Alexa. This process does not require any voice commands; you must simply play music manually from your smartphone. The connection via Bluetooth implies that you are unable to give voice commands through this device, but it can still be used as a speaker.

If you want to control the playback of your music using voice commands, there is another method which involves using an Echo Dot or Amazon Tap. These devices have built-in support for SoundCloud and allow users to control their listening experience with ease. To get started, just open the Alexa app and link your SoundCloud account in the settings menu

Method 1: Play SoundCloud with Echo Dot

If you want to use SoundCloud on your Echo Dot, there are a few ways to do it. The easiest way is to connect your Echo Dot over Bluetooth to your phone or computer. You can then play the music from those devices on your Echo Dot.

It will take some time for the devices to connect, but once they’re connected you can listen to your music anywhere in the house. Just make sure that both devices are turned on and within range of each other.

The Echo Dot also has a speaker, so you can listen to music without connecting it to another device. You can either stream music from the internet or play songs that are stored on your phone or computer.

SoundCloud is one of the many streaming services that Alexa can connect with. Just say “Alexa, connect with SoundCloud” and she’ll be ready to go. You can then ask her to play specific songs or albums, or create custom stations based on your favorite artists.

Radio stations are not yet available on the Echo Dot, but they will be coming in late 2017. Until then, only Pandora and TuneIn radio are available as streaming options.

Method 2: Play SoundCloud with Amazon Music

If you’re a fan of SoundCloud, but also use Amazon Music, you’re in luck! There is an easy way to make SoundCloud play through Amazon Music. All you need to do is follow these simple steps:

First, connect your Echo device and Amazon account. To do this, open the Settings menu on your Echo device and select “Music & Media.” Under “Amazon Music,” click “Sign In” and enter your login credentials.

Next, open the Alexa app on your phone or tablet. Tap the three curved lines in the bottom-left corner of the screen to open the main menu, then select “Settings > Streaming.” Make sure that “SoundCloud” is checked under “Available Services.”

Finally, go back to the Settings menu on your Echo device and select “Alexa Preferences > Music.” Under “Default Services,” make sure that Amazon Music is set as default. Now when you say commands like “[Alexa] play music by Adele,” it will stream from your Amazon account.

If at any time you want to change which device the song is streaming from, just click on the three curved lines and box at the bottom middle of the screen. This will bring up a list of all of your connected devices, and you can select the one you want to use.

It’s also worth noting that the Alexa app supports multiple music players. So if you use a different player for your personal music library, you can still use SoundCloud with Amazon Music without any problems.

Method 3: Play SoundCloud with TuneIn Radio

There are many ways to play SoundCloud on Alexa devices, and one of those methods is by using TuneIn Radio. Here are the simple steps on how to do this:

1) Connect your Echo Dot to Bluetooth. Make sure that your phone or computer is connected to the same network as your Echo Dot.

2) Open the TuneIn Radio app and search for “SoundCloud.”

3) Once you have found SoundCloud, select it and then click on the blue “Connect” button.

4) You will now see a message that says “TuneIn has connected to your SoundCloud account.”

5) Press the Home button on your Echo Dot and say, “Alexa, play [artist] on TuneIn.”

6) The virtual assistant will start playing music from SoundCloud through TuneIn Radio.

How to link your Android phone to your Amazon Echo via Bluetooth

If you want to play music from your Android phone on your Amazon Echo, the process is very simple. You can either use the Bluetooth connection or a cable.

On your Android device, swipe down from the top of your screen to open your notifications and settings drawer. Scroll down and tap on “Bluetooth.” Make sure that Bluetooth is turned on, then tap on “Pair with a new device.”

For step 3, say Alexa or the wake word you have for your Echo device. The devices will automatically start pairing once they are close enough to each other.

Once they are paired, playing music from your Android phone on Echo is easy. Just connect them using a cable (if you’re not using Bluetooth) or by selecting “Amazon Echo” as the output device in any music app on your Android phone.

How to link your Android phone to your Amazon Echo via the Alexa app

To link your Android phone to your Amazon Echo via the Alexa app, you need to update your phone’s Bluetooth settings. Once updated, you can play locally-stored audio files on the Amazon Echo device by connecting it through Bluetooth.

How to link your Android phone to your Amazon Echo via the Amazon Music app

To start streaming music from your Android phone to your Amazon Echo, open the Amazon Music app and tap on a song, album, or playlist you want to hear. Tap on the streaming/casting icon at the bottom middle of the screen (it looks like a small triangle pointing up). This will begin streaming audio from your Android phone to your Echo device.

If you’re using an iPhone or iPad, follow these instructions instead.

For this workaround, you will need to have the Alexa app on your phone. Go into Settings and select “Linked Accounts.” Under “Music” tap on “Amazon Music.” You should now see a list of devices that are linked to your account–including any Echo devices. To play music from a specific device, pick a recently played playlist or album and press which device you want it to be streamed to (for example, if you want it streamed only through your Echo Show, then choose “Echo Show”).

The YouTube Music app is currently unavailable for use with Amazon Echo devices but can still be used with other devices (such as Bluetooth).

Playing SoundCloud with Alexa on Sonos Speakers

As you may know, Sonos is a popular brand of wifi-connected speakers. And as it turns out, they’re also compatible with Alexa! This means that you can use voice commands to play SoundCloud music on your Sonos speaker. Pretty nifty, right?

In order to do this, you’ll need a Sonos speaker (or several) and the premium SoundCloud Go+ subscription. Once you have those things set up, follow these simple steps:

1) Open the Sonos app on your phone or computer

2) Enter your password and start playing some SoundCloud tunes!

3) To add SoundCloud as a service in the Sonos app, go to Menu > Add Music Services > SoundCloud

4) Follow the instructions to connect your account and start streaming all of your favorite tracks from within the app!

5) If you want to use Alexa with your Sonos speaker(s), open up the Amazon Echo app and follow the steps there. You’ll need to enable ‘SoundCloud’ in the Skills section of the Echo’s settings menu. Then just say “Alexa, play [artist/song] on my sonos” and enjoy listening to music through your multi-room setup!
