It is common for people to have their entry lights turn on when they open the door in order to alert people that someone has just opened the door. It’s a courteous thing to do. If you have your lights turn on automatically, it can help people know that someone has just entered the house.

A simple way to automate your LED light is with a relay module and a power supply. If you want, you can also use the Arduino platform to control your lights.

It takes no longer than 20 minutes to complete. A light switch is connected to your entry lights. This allows for your lights to automatically turn on when you open the door. Steps are easy to follow, and the necessary parts can be found at any electronics shop.

Step 1:

Cut off the plastic on your light switch; you want good contact between your entry lights and your switch.

Step 2:

Take an old screwdriver and pry off the top of your entry light; you are ready to start wiring.

Step 3:

Take a piece of wire, and wrap it around the screwdriver; this will be your input wire.

Step 4:

Take your contact wires from your entry lights and connect them to the screwdriver inputs; you are ready to test.

Step 5:

Place a screwdriver on either side of your switch, and turn it one time; you should see a faint glow from the screwdriver. This is because your switch has now been activated; you are ready to go.

Step 6:

Take the screwdriver off of your entry lights and place it on either side of your door; turn it one time, you should see a faint glow from the screwdriver. This is because your entry lights have been activated.

Step 7:

Repeat steps 5 and 6 until both sides of your door are activated.

That’s it; you have just activated your entry lights or garage door openers! There is no need for any additional wiring. Now all you have to do is use a screwdriver to turn on your entry lights or garage door openers whenever you want to.

If at any time you wish to deactivate your entry lights or garage door openers, simply repeat steps 1 through 7, but do so on the opposite side of your door.

If you want to activate and deactivate your entry lights or garage door openers from inside your house, there is a simple solution as well. Follow the steps above, but instead of using a screwdriver to activate your entry lights or garage door openers, use a paperclip.
