Plugging in and setting up an Echo Alexa device is a simple and straightforward process. To begin, plug your Alexa Echo device into a power source. Then, download and open the Alexa app on your phone. Sign in with your Amazon account if needed, and click on the More tab and select Add Device. After the device is set up, say Alexa to ensure it is up and working. Tap Echo & Alexa on the device menu, then select your Echo device. To make it easier to find the one you want to connect with a different Wi-Fi network, you should have given your Alexa a name and assigned it to a room in your house. Next, open your phone’s settings and turn on Bluetooth. Then, say, “Alexa, pair” or “Alexa, connect to Bluetooth,” and select the Echo device in the list of available devices. Tap on your device and click on the Echo & Alexa tab in the Alexa app. Click on Connect to Wi-Fi and select the network you want to connect to and enter the password. After Alexa connects to the internet successfully, you will get a message notifying you that the setup is complete and the Echo device is now connected to a Wi-Fi network.

  10. Your iPhone will then discover and pair with the Echo.
  11. Open your iPhone’s Bluetooth settings and select the Amazon-XXX network.

  14. Turn on your mobile hotspot or Wi-Fi connection for additional services and features.

And you’re done! Alexa will now be able to play music over Bluetooth from your phone.

Step 4: Turn off the hotspot, use Alexa without WiFi

Are you looking for a way to use your Amazon Alexa without a WiFi connection? With a few quick steps, you can use your Alexa device even without Wi-Fi. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Alexa app on your phone and select the Settings option. On the device’s main screen, tap the Settings icon.
  2. Select Bluetooth and then click “Connect to WiFi.” On the device itself, press “Connect to WiFi network.”
  3. In the menu, select your hotspot and choose “Connect to a wireless network.”
  4. Once connected, the device will show your connected devices. Once connected, tap “Connect to Hotspot” and enter the password.
  5. To make sure your device is connected, open the Alexa app again. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and select “Use this device as a Wi-Fi hotspot.”
  6. You will be asked not to activate the hotspot yet. Just tap Start.
  7. Enter the information for your phone’s personal hotspot and tap Connect.
  8. While the device is searching for a signal, activate your device’s mobile hotspot option. On an Android device, open the Settings and tap the Hotspot option. On an iOS device, open Settings and switch on the Personal Hotspot.
  9. Once Alexa connects to your device’s signal, you can tap Continue in the Alexa app. Now your Alexa device is ready to chat and access the internet no matter where you are.

Step 5: Install the Alexa a

The Alexa app is an app developed by Amazon that helps people connect their iPhones to a Wi-Fi hotspot. It allows users to set up and control their Alexa-enabled devices, such as Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, and other Alexa-compatible devices. Through the Alexa app, users can also control their smart home devices, music, and other Alexa-enabled services. To connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot, users will need to open the Alexa app on their phone and sign in with their Amazon account. Then, they can select the Amazon Echo or Echo device they wish to connect to, and follow the instructions to proceed further. This includes allowing access to location services and selecting the phone’s Wi-Fi hotspot, and then inputting the password. After the device is set up, users can say “Alexa” to ensure that it is up and running.

Step 6: Set up a temporary address for Echo

If you need to set up an Echo device at a temporary address, it’s possible to use a mobile hotspot to do so. Here’s how it works.

First, plug your Echo into a power source and turn it on. Wait for it to power up, then press and hold the action button (the one with a dot on it) until it goes into setup mode. This is indicated by a revolving (or pulsing) orange light. Alexa should also announce “Now in setup mode. Please follow the instructions in your Alexa app”.

Open the Alexa app on your phone, it might detect an Echo in setup mode and you can tap Continue.

If not, tap the three horizontal lines at the top left to bring up the menu and tap Add Device. (Don’t worry if your Echo is already set up… this is just a way to force the app to find the Echo and connect to its Wi-Fi hotspot.)

Tap on Amazon Echo and then choose your model from the list. We are setting up a second-gen Echo, but the process is the same for all.

You should see a prompt asking if you can see the orange light. Tap Yes and the app will try to connect to the Echo. If it fails, go to your phone’s Wi-Fi settings and tap the Amazon-XXX network and tap Connect. Some Android phones may ask if you really want to connect since there is no internet connection. Be sure to approve this request.

Once connected it will show a list of the available Wi-Fi networks. At the bottom is the option to ‘Use this device as a Wi-Fi hotspot’. Tap this and you’ll be asked to get the network name and password for your phone’s hotspot.

Next, type these in exactly as they appear: they are case sensitive. (Ignore the wrongly-typed details in the screenshot below. This is how we know that they’re case-sensitive!)

The next screen will ask you to turn on the Wi-Fi hotspot on your phone and the Echo will attempt to connect to it. When you hear a tone and the orange light has gone out it has successfully connected to your phone and you can use Alexa as usual.

In the app, tap Continue and you can then skip the screen which asks which room your Echo is in, since this isn’t relevant.

The final screen might ask for location, since weather forecasts and other skills require this for accurate reporting. You can enter a new address at this point if you’re not at home and want Alexa to be able to give you local weather information.

Step 7: Test your setup

To test your setup for connecting Alexa to an iPhone hotspot, follow these steps:

  1. Open your Alexa app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android.
  2. Tap Devices in the bottom toolbar and select your device.

  4. Hold the Action button until the orange light begins spinning.
  5. Tap Yes when you see the orange light circling on your Echo device.
  6. Type in your Wi-Fi password and tap the network you’d like your Echo Show to use.
  7. Click on the network and Alexa will connect to the new Wi-Fi network.
  8. Ask Alexa a question and she should respond as expected to verify the setup.
  9. To check which Wi-Fi network you’re connected to, open the Alexa App on your smartphone and tap Devices at the bottom.
  10. Tap on Echo & Alexa at the top of the page and select your device.
  11. Tap the Settings cog in the upper right corner and scroll down to view the current network.

Step 8: Share voice commands and tasks

If you want to share voice commands and tasks with Alexa using your iPhone hotspot, here’s how: First, open the Settings on your iPhone or Android phone and turn on Bluetooth. Next, say, “Alexa, pair” or “Alexa, connect to Bluetooth.” On your phone, click on Pair New Device and let it scan for available devices. Look for the Echo device in the list of available devices and tap on it. You may need to say, ” Alexa, pair ” to activate pairing mode. Finally, input your Wi-Fi password, and Alexa will connect to the new Wi-Fi network.

Once you are connected, you can use voice commands to control playback on your Echo device, as well as control other Alexa-compatible devices in your home. Additionally, you can use the Alexa app to access the controls of your devices. To do so, you’ll need to turn on the microphone in the app and speak directly into it. Your Alexa-compatible device will then translate your command into text and look for an accurate response in its memory. With this setup, you can use voice commands on your Echo device and other Alexa-compatible devices, even when using your iPhone hotspot.

A mobile hotspot, such as a MiFi device, is a dedicated device that typically has a larger range than a mobile phone hotspot. It can easily provide a secure connection for up to 10 devices, making it ideal for large groups.

A mobile phone hotspot, on the other hand, is a feature that many modern smartphones have. This allows you to share your phone’s internet connection with other devices. It is more limited in range than a mobile hotspot, but it’s a great option if you only need to connect one or two devices.

Both mobile hotspots and mobile phone hotspots provide a secure connection and enable you to access the internet on the go. However, the range and number of devices supported are the main factors that differentiate them.
