  • Open Alexa app.
  • Tap “Skills” in the top left corner of your screen.
  • Tap on “Add a new skill”.
  • Give it a name and description, then tap “Next”.
  • Choose an IFTTT channel to use for this skill (if you don’t have one yet, create one by following these instructions)  then tap “Next”.  You will now be given the option to add some trigger conditions that must be met before the action takes place (e.g., when I wake up, or when my phone is connected to Bluetooth).  For our purposes, we will leave them as default and skip ahead to step 7b of the tutorial below: 7a) Give your device a nickname if you like (we’ll use ‘Alexa’) 8a) Select how long each trigger should occur for either every hour or only once per day then tap Next 9a) Choose what action should take place when this condition is met either play or pause music on iTunes 10b)) On your Alexaenabled device go into Settings/Devices/Music/iTunes 11b)) Select Music Library from the menu 12c) Click Manage library from the menu 13d Place a checkmark next to Automatically upload purchased items 14e If necessary enable Allowance Sync 15f To enable Allowance Sync select Allowance Sync , then click Done 16f Select Enable sync 17g When prompted

  • To pause music, say “Alexa, pause” or press the button on your speaker to play/pause music manually if it does not work automatically with Alexa’s voice commands (iTunes and Google Play).
  • To stop a song, say “Alexa, Stop” or by pressing the button on your speaker.
  • To skip to the next track, say “Alexa, Next”.
  • To go back to the previous track, say “Alexa, Previous.”
  • If you have multiple devices with Alexa installed and they are all playing music at the same time (iTunes and Google Play will play music simultaneously if both services are enabled), you can use voice commands like “Alexa turn on Apple Music” or “Alexa switch to Spotify”, instead of saying something like “Play Apple Music” because it will only be played on one device at a time.
